The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
