The Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he added.
Toronto won the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
