Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.
Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.
The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "during the day".
The series decider of the tour in Sydney gets underway at the end of the week.
The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was called up as cover for Wood.
Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.
He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three English batsmen who passed ten runs.
Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned on Saturday morning and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.
However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.
Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the previous Test.
