Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
